Metamorphosis: Transmutation of the Soul

Metamorphosis: The Transmutation of the Soul is inspired by the emotions and journey of the soul when it’s time has come to exit the physical body and return to the eternal source, in whatever form that source takes for you. This is not a piece about sadness, but rather of transformation and acceptance.  

This piece is suited to the more adventurous quartet or group as, along with tutti sections, it features solos for each instrument, over a pedal point held by the other players. I have written out these solos but the idea is the player could also improvise in those sections – taking as much or as little of my suggested solo as desired. There is plenty of scope for the player to use my base but including extra notes/ornamentation.

A version of this piece set out for SATB recorders is also available, as AM-1149. I personally prefer this original version as I find the lower pitch enhances the nature of the piece however it works fine at SATB as well.
